the Holiday Bazaar, December 5 -7. Herland will open at 3 PM
on Friday and remain open until 10 PM. On Saturday, Herland
will open at 10 AM and stay open until 10 PM. Friday evening
will include holiday snacks and festive music. Saturday at 7:30
PM we'll have a holiday potluck so come and bring a disk to
share. Herland will be open the regular Sunday hours of 1 PM
-6 PM on Sunday, December 7.
Thanks to Mystic Forest Treasures in Norman for all the help
in getting special gift items for the Holiday Bazaar.

New Year's day foods, friends and festivities (and for the die-hard

At the November Board meeting, Her land decided to produce
a recording featuring local women singer/songwriters. This recording is a way for Herland to showcase the achievements of the
very talented women singer/songwriters in Oklahoma City. At
this early date the list of performers to be featured already
includes Miss Brown to You (Mary Reynolds, Louise Goldberg,
Elyse Angelo and Terri Hoersch), Peggy Johnson, Donna D., and
Wanda D. and others are still being added . The recording will be
produced by Studiogirl, a local womet1-owned and operated
studio.
We are inviting individuals to be "CP underwriters"to cover
production costs ofthe recording . . With ~1 minimum contribution
of $50, a "CD underwriter" will receive an autographed copy of
the CD, complimentary admission to the r~lease party and any CD
benefit performances. The names of"CD underwriters" will also
be listed in the Voice and on the CD liner notes.
We need at least 70 "CD undern riters" to produce this
recording. Give yourself (and your favorite performer) a holiday
gift by becoming a CD underwriter.

OKC CELEBRATES HUMAN RIGHTS DAY
Every December 10, Human Rights Day is celebrated around
the world, commemorating the Universal Declaration ofHuinan
Rights which was unanimously adopted by the United Nations
General Assembly on December 10, 194~.
In Oklahoma City, Amnesty International will be joining this
campaign with a Human Rights Day celebration. Musical performances by Peggy Johnson and the group Freefall will highlight
the event at Medina's Coffeehouse and Gallery located at 3004
Paseo. A $5 donation will be collected at the door, with all
proceeds going to support Amnesty lntemational's work in
Oklahoma. [J

SUPREME COURT

& BEYOND

January 22, 1998 will mark the 25th anniversary of Roe v.
Wade, the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized
abortion in the United States. Many U.S. citizens are too young
to remember what it was like in the days of back-alley and selfinduced abortions. This anniversary provides an outstanding
opportunity for feminists to educate the public about the importance of safe and legal abortion, and the award-winning documentary From the Back Alleys to the Supreme Court & Beyond
could be a vital tool in that educational campaign.
From the Back Alleys to the Supreme Court & Beyond,
produced by filmmaker Dorothy Fadiman and KTEH-TV Executive Producer Danny McGuire, combines three films - When
Abortion Was Illegal, From Danger to Dignity, and The Fragile
Promise of Choice. The first film in the trilogy, When Abortion
Was Illegal, was nominated for an Academy Award in the
documentary short category, and received "Best Documentary"
award from the Atlanta International Film & Video Festival and
many others. From Danger to Dignity won a Gold Apple award
from the National Education Media Festival in 1996; and a Gold
Hugo from the Chicago International Film & Video Festival in
1996.

Make your plans now to start the new year with Dar
Williams (and special guest Ellis Paul) at the City Arts Center
January 2. If you've never been to the City Arts Center, you 're
missing an intimate venue to see some of the most talented
singer/songwriter/musicians traveling around the country today. Every seat is a good one, and come to think of it, every
concert I've been to there has been a good one too. The tickets
are cheap, and cokes and beer are sold on a donation basis.
Dar Williams is a very talented songwriter whose song
"Are You Out There" is now currently being played on The
Spy (93. 7) in Stillwater. Her latest CD is titled End of the
Summer, and she has two previous rele;ises, Mortal City and
The Honesty Room. She has a great three octave voice and a
lot of really good insightful songs that a re complex enough to
keep me interested for a long time. W0're very fortunate to
have Dar and Ellis Paul performing here in Oklahoma City so
please help support them, and maybe they'll be back!
The Comp/eat Works of Wilm Shkspr (Abridged) will be
performed at Carpenter Square Theater from November 28
through December 20. All performances will be in the theater
company's new home, Stage Center. Th is play is a condensed
version of all of Shakespeare's work, blended with Monty
Python-like humor.
According to the Metro Downtowner, Othello is performed in rap, all of the history plays are done as a football
game, and all of the comedies become "The Love Boat Goes to
Verona. A highlight is a Hamlet recap performed backwards.
Audience participation is also encouraged." Call 232-6500
for reservations.
For you Janis Ian fans, or those who would like to
introduce yourselfto her music, I highly recommend her latest
release Hunger. Throughout the album, her guitar skills are
evident, and really add a lot to a couple of songs that might be
very ordinary without them. There are a few songs too that
really show off her gift of a voice, and her songwriting talent
is still going strong. Make this one your holiday gift for
yourself!

SANTA PARTY
The Church of the Open Arms will host a Santa Party on
December 14 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM Bring your kids!
Children of all ages and families of every shape, style and size are
welcomed. The party will be immediately after the Sunday
service (beginning at 1:30 PM) which will be a Christmas
program, including children's drama and lots of singing.
All are invited to the service/program but even if you don't
attend the program, you are welcome at 2: 30 for Santa. Santa will
distribute treat bags to the kids. Cookies, punch and coffee will
be served.
All events will be at the Church of 1he Open Arms at 3901
NW 63 in Oklahoma City (in the Mayflower Church building).

PM we'll have a holiday potluck so come and bring a disk to
share. Herland will be open the regular Sunday hours of 1 PM

At the November Board meeting, Her land decided to produce
a recording featuring local women singer/songwriters. This recording is a way for Herland to showcase the achievements of the
very talented women singer/songwriters in Oklahoma City. At
this early date the list of performers to be featured already
includes Miss Brown to You (Mary Reynolds, Louise Goldberg,
Elyse Angelo and Terri Hoersch), Peggy Johnson, Donna D., and
Wanda D. and others are still being added . The recording will be
produced by Studiogirl, a local womet1-owned and operated
studio.
We are inviting individuals to be "CP underwriters"to cover
production costs ofthe recording . . With ~1 minimum contribution
of $50, a "CD underwriter" will receive an autographed copy of
the CD, complimentary admission to the r~lease party and any CD
benefit performances. The names of"CD underwriters" will also
be listed in the Voice and on the CD liner notes.
We need at least 70 "CD undern riters" to produce this
recording. Give yourself (and your favorite performer) a holiday
gift by becoming a CD underwriter.

OKC CELEBRATES HUMAN RIGHTS DAY
Every December 10, Human Rights Day is celebrated around
the world, commemorating the Universal Declaration ofHuinan
Rights which was unanimously adopted by the United Nations
General Assembly on December 10, 194~.
In Oklahoma City, Amnesty International will be joining this
campaign with a Human Rights Day celebration. Musical performances by Peggy Johnson and the group Freefall will highlight
the event at Medina's Coffeehouse and Gallery located at 3004
Paseo. A $5 donation will be collected at the door, with all
proceeds going to support Amnesty lntemational's work in
Oklahoma. [J

SUPREME COURT

& BEYOND

January 22, 1998 will mark the 25th anniversary of Roe v.
Wade, the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized
abortion in the United States. Many U.S. citizens are too young
to remember what it was like in the days of back-alley and selfinduced abortions. This anniversary provides an outstanding
opportunity for feminists to educate the public about the importance of safe and legal abortion, and the award-winning documentary From the Back Alleys to the Supreme Court & Beyond
could be a vital tool in that educational campaign.
From the Back Alleys to the Supreme Court & Beyond,
produced by filmmaker Dorothy Fadiman and KTEH-TV Executive Producer Danny McGuire, combines three films - When
Abortion Was Illegal, From Danger to Dignity, and The Fragile
Promise of Choice. The first film in the trilogy, When Abortion
Was Illegal, was nominated for an Academy Award in the
documentary short category, and received "Best Documentary"
award from the Atlanta International Film & Video Festival and
many others. From Danger to Dignity won a Gold Apple award
from the National Education Media Festival in 1996; and a Gold
Hugo from the Chicago International Film & Video Festival in
1996.

Make your plans now to start the new year with Dar
Williams (and special guest Ellis Paul) at the City Arts Center
January 2. If you've never been to the City Arts Center, you 're
missing an intimate venue to see some of the most talented
singer/songwriter/musicians traveling around the country today. Every seat is a good one, and come to think of it, every
concert I've been to there has been a good one too. The tickets
are cheap, and cokes and beer are sold on a donation basis.
Dar Williams is a very talented songwriter whose song
"Are You Out There" is now currently being played on The
Spy (93. 7) in Stillwater. Her latest CD is titled End of the
Summer, and she has two previous rele;ises, Mortal City and
The Honesty Room. She has a great three octave voice and a
lot of really good insightful songs that a re complex enough to
keep me interested for a long time. W0're very fortunate to
have Dar and Ellis Paul performing here in Oklahoma City so
please help support them, and maybe they'll be back!
The Comp/eat Works of Wilm Shkspr (Abridged) will be
performed at Carpenter Square Theater from November 28
through December 20. All performances will be in the theater
company's new home, Stage Center. Th is play is a condensed
version of all of Shakespeare's work, blended with Monty
Python-like humor.
According to the Metro Downtowner, Othello is performed in rap, all of the history plays are done as a football
game, and all of the comedies become "The Love Boat Goes to
Verona. A highlight is a Hamlet recap performed backwards.
Audience participation is also encouraged." Call 232-6500
for reservations.
For you Janis Ian fans, or those who would like to
introduce yourselfto her music, I highly recommend her latest
release Hunger. Throughout the album, her guitar skills are
evident, and really add a lot to a couple of songs that might be
very ordinary without them. There are a few songs too that
really show off her gift of a voice, and her songwriting talent
is still going strong. Make this one your holiday gift for
yourself!

SANTA PARTY
The Church of the Open Arms will host a Santa Party on
December 14 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM Bring your kids!
Children of all ages and families of every shape, style and size are
welcomed. The party will be immediately after the Sunday
service (beginning at 1:30 PM) which will be a Christmas
program, including children's drama and lots of singing.
All are invited to the service/program but even if you don't
attend the program, you are welcome at 2: 30 for Santa. Santa will
distribute treat bags to the kids. Cookies, punch and coffee will
be served.

a recording featuring local women singer/songwriters. This recording is a way for Herland to showcase the achievements of the
very talented women singer/songwriters in Oklahoma City. At
this early date the list of performers to be featured already
includes Miss Brown to You (Mary Reynolds, Louise Goldberg,
Elyse Angelo and Terri Hoersch), Peggy Johnson, Donna D., and
Wanda D. and others are still being added . The recording will be
produced by Studiogirl, a local womet1-owned and operated
studio.
We are inviting individuals to be "CP underwriters"to cover
production costs ofthe recording . . With ~1 minimum contribution
of $50, a "CD underwriter" will receive an autographed copy of
the CD, complimentary admission to the r~lease party and any CD
benefit performances. The names of"CD underwriters" will also
be listed in the Voice and on the CD liner notes.

OKC CELEBRATES HUMAN RIGHTS DAY
Every December 10, Human Rights Day is celebrated around
the world, commemorating the Universal Declaration ofHuinan
Rights which was unanimously adopted by the United Nations
General Assembly on December 10, 194~.
In Oklahoma City, Amnesty International will be joining this
campaign with a Human Rights Day celebration. Musical performances by Peggy Johnson and the group Freefall will highlight
the event at Medina's Coffeehouse and Gallery located at 3004
Paseo. A $5 donation will be collected at the door, with all
proceeds going to support Amnesty lntemational's work in
Oklahoma. [J

January 22, 1998 will mark the 25th anniversary of Roe v.
Wade, the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized
abortion in the United States. Many U.S. citizens are too young
to remember what it was like in the days of back-alley and selfinduced abortions. This anniversary provides an outstanding
opportunity for feminists to educate the public about the importance of safe and legal abortion, and the award-winning documentary From the Back Alleys to the Supreme Court & Beyond
could be a vital tool in that educational campaign.
From the Back Alleys to the Supreme Court & Beyond,
produced by filmmaker Dorothy Fadiman and KTEH-TV Executive Producer Danny McGuire, combines three films - When
Abortion Was Illegal, From Danger to Dignity, and The Fragile
Promise of Choice. The first film in the trilogy, When Abortion
Was Illegal, was nominated for an Academy Award in the
documentary short category, and received "Best Documentary"
award from the Atlanta International Film & Video Festival and
many others. From Danger to Dignity won a Gold Apple award
from the National Education Media Festival in 1996; and a Gold
Hugo from the Chicago International Film & Video Festival in
1996.

Make your plans now to start the new year with Dar
Williams (and special guest Ellis Paul) at the City Arts Center
January 2. If you've never been to the City Arts Center, you 're
missing an intimate venue to see some of the most talented
singer/songwriter/musicians traveling around the country today. Every seat is a good one, and come to think of it, every
concert I've been to there has been a good one too. The tickets
are cheap, and cokes and beer are sold on a donation basis.
Dar Williams is a very talented songwriter whose song
"Are You Out There" is now currently being played on The
Spy (93. 7) in Stillwater. Her latest CD is titled End of the
Summer, and she has two previous rele;ises, Mortal City and
The Honesty Room. She has a great three octave voice and a
lot of really good insightful songs that a re complex enough to
keep me interested for a long time. W0're very fortunate to
have Dar and Ellis Paul performing here in Oklahoma City so
please help support them, and maybe they'll be back!
The Comp/eat Works of Wilm Shkspr (Abridged) will be
performed at Carpenter Square Theater from November 28
through December 20. All performances will be in the theater
company's new home, Stage Center. Th is play is a condensed
version of all of Shakespeare's work, blended with Monty
Python-like humor.
According to the Metro Downtowner, Othello is performed in rap, all of the history plays are done as a football
game, and all of the comedies become "The Love Boat Goes to
Verona. A highlight is a Hamlet recap performed backwards.
Audience participation is also encouraged." Call 232-6500
for reservations.
For you Janis Ian fans, or those who would like to
introduce yourselfto her music, I highly recommend her latest
release Hunger. Throughout the album, her guitar skills are
evident, and really add a lot to a couple of songs that might be
very ordinary without them. There are a few songs too that
really show off her gift of a voice, and her songwriting talent
is still going strong. Make this one your holiday gift for
yourself!

SANTA PARTY
The Church of the Open Arms will host a Santa Party on
December 14 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM Bring your kids!
Children of all ages and families of every shape, style and size are
welcomed. The party will be immediately after the Sunday
service (beginning at 1:30 PM) which will be a Christmas
program, including children's drama and lots of singing.
All are invited to the service/program but even if you don't
attend the program, you are welcome at 2: 30 for Santa. Santa will
distribute treat bags to the kids. Cookies, punch and coffee will
be served.

a recording featuring local women singer/songwriters. This recording is a way for Herland to showcase the achievements of the
very talented women singer/songwriters in Oklahoma City. At
this early date the list of performers to be featured already
includes Miss Brown to You (Mary Reynolds, Louise Goldberg,
Elyse Angelo and Terri Hoersch), Peggy Johnson, Donna D., and
Wanda D. and others are still being added . The recording will be
produced by Studiogirl, a local womet1-owned and operated
studio.
We are inviting individuals to be "CP underwriters"to cover
production costs ofthe recording . . With ~1 minimum contribution
of $50, a "CD underwriter" will receive an autographed copy of
the CD, complimentary admission to the r~lease party and any CD
benefit performances. The names of"CD underwriters" will also
be listed in the Voice and on the CD liner notes.

OKC CELEBRATES HUMAN RIGHTS DAY
Every December 10, Human Rights Day is celebrated around
the world, commemorating the Universal Declaration ofHuinan
Rights which was unanimously adopted by the United Nations
General Assembly on December 10, 194~.
In Oklahoma City, Amnesty International will be joining this
campaign with a Human Rights Day celebration. Musical performances by Peggy Johnson and the group Freefall will highlight
the event at Medina's Coffeehouse and Gallery located at 3004
Paseo. A $5 donation will be collected at the door, with all
proceeds going to support Amnesty lntemational's work in
Oklahoma. [J

January 22, 1998 will mark the 25th anniversary of Roe v.
Wade, the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized
abortion in the United States. Many U.S. citizens are too young
to remember what it was like in the days of back-alley and selfinduced abortions. This anniversary provides an outstanding
opportunity for feminists to educate the public about the importance of safe and legal abortion, and the award-winning documentary From the Back Alleys to the Supreme Court & Beyond
could be a vital tool in that educational campaign.
From the Back Alleys to the Supreme Court & Beyond,
produced by filmmaker Dorothy Fadiman and KTEH-TV Executive Producer Danny McGuire, combines three films - When
Abortion Was Illegal, From Danger to Dignity, and The Fragile
Promise of Choice. The first film in the trilogy, When Abortion
Was Illegal, was nominated for an Academy Award in the
documentary short category, and received "Best Documentary"
award from the Atlanta International Film & Video Festival and
many others. From Danger to Dignity won a Gold Apple award
from the National Education Media Festival in 1996; and a Gold
Hugo from the Chicago International Film & Video Festival in
1996.

Make your plans now to start the new year with Dar
Williams (and special guest Ellis Paul) at the City Arts Center
January 2. If you've never been to the City Arts Center, you 're
missing an intimate venue to see some of the most talented
singer/songwriter/musicians traveling around the country today. Every seat is a good one, and come to think of it, every
concert I've been to there has been a good one too. The tickets
are cheap, and cokes and beer are sold on a donation basis.
Dar Williams is a very talented songwriter whose song
"Are You Out There" is now currently being played on The
Spy (93. 7) in Stillwater. Her latest CD is titled End of the
Summer, and she has two previous rele;ises, Mortal City and
The Honesty Room. She has a great three octave voice and a
lot of really good insightful songs that a re complex enough to
keep me interested for a long time. W0're very fortunate to
have Dar and Ellis Paul performing here in Oklahoma City so
please help support them, and maybe they'll be back!
The Comp/eat Works of Wilm Shkspr (Abridged) will be
performed at Carpenter Square Theater from November 28
through December 20. All performances will be in the theater
company's new home, Stage Center. Th is play is a condensed
version of all of Shakespeare's work, blended with Monty
Python-like humor.
According to the Metro Downtowner, Othello is performed in rap, all of the history plays are done as a football
game, and all of the comedies become "The Love Boat Goes to
Verona. A highlight is a Hamlet recap performed backwards.
Audience participation is also encouraged." Call 232-6500
for reservations.
For you Janis Ian fans, or those who would like to
introduce yourselfto her music, I highly recommend her latest
release Hunger. Throughout the album, her guitar skills are
evident, and really add a lot to a couple of songs that might be
very ordinary without them. There are a few songs too that
really show off her gift of a voice, and her songwriting talent
is still going strong. Make this one your holiday gift for
yourself!

SANTA PARTY
The Church of the Open Arms will host a Santa Party on
December 14 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM Bring your kids!
Children of all ages and families of every shape, style and size are
welcomed. The party will be immediately after the Sunday
service (beginning at 1:30 PM) which will be a Christmas
program, including children's drama and lots of singing.
All are invited to the service/program but even if you don't
attend the program, you are welcome at 2: 30 for Santa. Santa will
distribute treat bags to the kids. Cookies, punch and coffee will
be served.

OKC CELEBRATES HUMAN RIGHTS DAY
Every December 10, Human Rights Day is celebrated around
the world, commemorating the Universal Declaration ofHuinan
Rights which was unanimously adopted by the United Nations
General Assembly on December 10, 194~.
In Oklahoma City, Amnesty International will be joining this
campaign with a Human Rights Day celebration. Musical performances by Peggy Johnson and the group Freefall will highlight
the event at Medina's Coffeehouse and Gallery located at 3004
Paseo. A $5 donation will be collected at the door, with all
proceeds going to support Amnesty lntemational's work in
Oklahoma. [J

January 22, 1998 will mark the 25th anniversary of Roe v.
Wade, the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized
abortion in the United States. Many U.S. citizens are too young
to remember what it was like in the days of back-alley and selfinduced abortions. This anniversary provides an outstanding
opportunity for feminists to educate the public about the importance of safe and legal abortion, and the award-winning documentary From the Back Alleys to the Supreme Court & Beyond
could be a vital tool in that educational campaign.
From the Back Alleys to the Supreme Court & Beyond,
produced by filmmaker Dorothy Fadiman and KTEH-TV Executive Producer Danny McGuire, combines three films - When
Abortion Was Illegal, From Danger to Dignity, and The Fragile
Promise of Choice. The first film in the trilogy, When Abortion
Was Illegal, was nominated for an Academy Award in the
documentary short category, and received "Best Documentary"
award from the Atlanta International Film & Video Festival and
many others. From Danger to Dignity won a Gold Apple award
from the National Education Media Festival in 1996; and a Gold
Hugo from the Chicago International Film & Video Festival in
1996.

Make your plans now to start the new year with Dar
Williams (and special guest Ellis Paul) at the City Arts Center
January 2. If you've never been to the City Arts Center, you 're
missing an intimate venue to see some of the most talented
singer/songwriter/musicians traveling around the country today. Every seat is a good one, and come to think of it, every
concert I've been to there has been a good one too. The tickets
are cheap, and cokes and beer are sold on a donation basis.
Dar Williams is a very talented songwriter whose song
"Are You Out There" is now currently being played on The
Spy (93. 7) in Stillwater. Her latest CD is titled End of the
Summer, and she has two previous rele;ises, Mortal City and
The Honesty Room. She has a great three octave voice and a
lot of really good insightful songs that a re complex enough to
keep me interested for a long time. W0're very fortunate to
have Dar and Ellis Paul performing here in Oklahoma City so
please help support them, and maybe they'll be back!
The Comp/eat Works of Wilm Shkspr (Abridged) will be
performed at Carpenter Square Theater from November 28
through December 20. All performances will be in the theater
company's new home, Stage Center. Th is play is a condensed
version of all of Shakespeare's work, blended with Monty
Python-like humor.
According to the Metro Downtowner, Othello is performed in rap, all of the history plays are done as a football
game, and all of the comedies become "The Love Boat Goes to
Verona. A highlight is a Hamlet recap performed backwards.
Audience participation is also encouraged." Call 232-6500
for reservations.
For you Janis Ian fans, or those who would like to
introduce yourselfto her music, I highly recommend her latest
release Hunger. Throughout the album, her guitar skills are
evident, and really add a lot to a couple of songs that might be
very ordinary without them. There are a few songs too that
really show off her gift of a voice, and her songwriting talent
is still going strong. Make this one your holiday gift for
yourself!

SANTA PARTY
The Church of the Open Arms will host a Santa Party on
December 14 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM Bring your kids!
Children of all ages and families of every shape, style and size are
welcomed. The party will be immediately after the Sunday
service (beginning at 1:30 PM) which will be a Christmas
program, including children's drama and lots of singing.
All are invited to the service/program but even if you don't
attend the program, you are welcome at 2: 30 for Santa. Santa will
distribute treat bags to the kids. Cookies, punch and coffee will
be served.
All events will be at the Church of 1he Open Arms at 3901
NW 63 in Oklahoma City (in the Mayflower Church building).
