FROM THE EDITOR
As 1987 draws to a close and I reflect back on this year, my sharpest
memories are not particularly pleasant ones.... The AIDS epidemic
continues to plunder through our community and the world -unchecked
while our government is still trying to decide on a course of action.
Involvement of the U.S. military continues to accelerate in the Middle
East. The stock markets of the world are making the wildest swings in
history — both high and low. The U.S. dollar continues to slide against
other foreign currencies. And in spite of what the politicians would have
us believe — people are out of work. The homeless rate of American's
is at an all time high since the Depression of the 1930's. Taxes continue
on a sharp upward spiral.
So where is the bright spots of 1987? For the community,it must be
October '87 the National March on Washington. The defeat of Bork to
the Supreme Court. For West Texas,it is the best cotton crop in 10
years. And perhaps a peace treaty by the end of 1987 with the Soviets.
For me personally, 1987 has been a good year. Dimensions is a year
and a half old this month, with business, as with youth,I find you
count the halves. Our reader base has grown to nine states, the Virgin
Islands and Canada, not including our tri-state distribution. Thanks to
our many subscribers. Obviously our advertising base has grown too.
Without our readers, advertisers, distributors and subscribers
, Dimensions would not still be in print. I want to thank you all!
If you have last years issues, I am sure you will notice we have
improved over the past year. We have learned alot we didn't know to
begin with. We continue to leam each month. One of our primary goals
is to bring you the best magazine we possible can each month. We do
have limits and financial limits are still a major obstacle, but as you can
see — together we have made it happen. Thank you all and MERRY
CHRISTMAS!!!

A Guest Commentary
"CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME"
This is the time of year for giving. Giving gifts, giving love and giving
to charity. That last one is the clincher. Everybody from Christmas
Seals to the Santa at the door of the mall is asking for your pocket
change or your whole paycheck. This is not to say that there aren't some
good causes out there that need your help. But, remember the old
saying, "Charity begins at home"? Well, that is what I would like to
focus on.
For many in our community,it is a very real possibility that this will be
their last Christmas. Yes, I'm talking about PWA's. I can't speak for
all of you, but I feel this is the most important cause I could give to this
Christmas. After all, these are our brothers, what better cause is there
than to brighten their Christmas with a gift of food, money,clothing or
simply with our time.
I have heard many lesbians say that AIDS is not their problem because
they will never get it Think again, sister. It is your problem and you
could get it. What makes it your problem you ask? The men that are
dying have been fighting for the same right to love that you have and
many have them have fought for your rights as women as well. They
have been your friends, confidantes and party buddies. They have come
to meet your parents so that you could stay in your closet. They have
loved you and fought for you, and if that isn't enough to convince you,
I don't know what is.
I am not affiliated with any organization,I only make this plea for those
friends of mine and the friends of theirs and the friends of theirs who
need a little compassion and love.
Maybe you don't have any money ... how about some time? No time?
Clean out your closet, I'm sure there's someone who would love that
old flannel shirt to keep them warm or those extra Christmas vookies
you baked. It doesn't take much to make things a little easier for
someone in need.

people feel this letdown today? I imagine
so.
