Center Remains Open
Organizational Name Change
There is a nasty rumor going around that the Pride Center
is or has closed! This is very false. Although the new signs
have come down, the center is still open and will remain
open.
Membership voted to initiate a contest soliciting possible
new names for TOHR and/or the Pride Center. Anyone is
eligible to participate and encouraged to submit ideas to the
Pride Center at their earliest convenience and prior to the
January 10, board meeting. The winning entry will receive
a $50.00 gift certifo;ate to use in the Pride Store. If that person is a TOHR member, they would also qualify for their
membership discount!
In December, TOHR was informed by the property owner
that placing the vinyl signs on the exterior of the building
was a direct violation of the lease. As a result of placing the
signs on the building's exterior and violating the terms of
the lease, the lease has been terminated by the owner.
The board is considering several options as to the course of
action for TOHR and the Pride Center. At the January 10,
board meeting decisions will be made regarding the recent
turn of events.
In the meantime, the Pride Center will continue to operate
with no change in business hours or scheduled activities.
As in the past, your continued support, both financial and
physical presence, are greatly needed at this time. With
your help, the future of TOHR and the center is bright.
Everyone is urged to continue to rally support from friends
and acquaintances. Invite your friends to visit the Pride
Center and encourage them to become members of TOHR.
Together we are strong!
Pride '99 Planning Meeting
Plans are underway for the 1999 Pride Parade and Picnic.
Mitchell Savage will chair the parade sub-committee and
Rick Martin will once again chair the picnic sub-committee.
Volunteers for both events are needed to plan and assist
with preparations for the June 12 activities. The next Pride
planning meeting is Tuesday, January 26, 7:30 p.m. at the
Pride Center. Anyone interested in helping is encouraged
to attend the meeting.
At the January 10, board meeting submissions will be considered, and recommendations for name changes will be
made at the January Membership Meeting.
If no submissions are received prior to the January 10 meeting, the deadline will be extended to the February 14 board
meeting and submissions will be considered at that time.
January Membership Meeting
The January general membership meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 12, 1999, 7:30 PM at the Pride
Center. Topics of discussion include appointments of atlarge board members for 1999, the 1999 Pride Parade and
Picnic and the Pride Center lease termination notice.

Richter regarding the
current Vaxgen study now on-going in Tulsa. Vaxgen is a
HIV vaccine that is being tested nationwide to determine
it's effectiveness in preventing HIV transmission. Dr. Richter is leading the study in Tulsa and is still seeking volunteers to participate in the study.
This should be an exciting meeting and everyone should
find the information on the HIV vaccine to be very informative. Please attend if you can!!
