With one political convention behind us and another still ahead,I find myselftired ofall
the politics. I believe the politicians of this country will tell us anything we want to hear
to get into office; "Yes, I'll endorse women's rights....Yes, I'll help the middle class
taxpayer..Yes,I'll work to change the laws in your favor(whoever you are)...No,I won't
raise taxes (that's the classic)..." but once they get into office, everything runs in the
same old ruts as always.
I recently attended a corporate meeting that addressed Political Action Committees
(PAC's),now I've attended these meetings before, but this one left me mad as hell. Not
only did they want my money for this conservative organization, but their lobbyistdidn t
talk about issues, he talked about all the"homosexuals and drunks" that grace the Texas
Legislature in Austin. To explain PAC's the way they were explained at this meeting(in
the conservative fashion),everyone gives a little money to the PAC(that way no one has
to give alot) and then the PAC makes donations to certain political candidate's
campaigns.Once the PAC"gives",that candidate is more likely to lend an ear when the
organization you support has an interest in a bill that is before the legislature.
Now,if"paying" for laws sounds like so much bull to you - it is! But that, my friends,
is how the system works. The only way we are going to bring change to our community
is with money, because unfortunately, that is the key to the American political system.
Donations are something easily put-off, but the next time you pay your bills just make
a check out to the PAC committee in your area. It takes a few minutes, but it is time and
money well spent. It is for your future and the future of the lesbian/gay community.

Timing is everything and with an election coming up in November(they

vour bills and make a check out to the PAC of your choice. Don t wait unti you
to sit through a meeting with a right-wing conservative discussing homosexua i y

A few words of advice about han
dling employment problems:
1. Do not answer employer questions
about your private life. These
questions are usually innappropiate
and in no way relate to your ability to
do the job.
2. Do not resign. A voluntary
resignation will often prevent you
from seeking legal remedies for the
way you were treated on the job.
3. Seek legal counsel if you believe
your job is in jeopardy.

five years. Now, monogamy is not my
specialty and never has been. The first
two years I lived in this relationship I
was sleeping with another woman. It
was no secret that I was sleeping with
her and things were OK. I ended up
giving up my other lover and settling
into a more or less monogamous
relationship. I have been very happy
and so has the woman I live with.
Everything was fine until about six
months ago. I got a call at work, from
Kay (not her real name) and she
desperately needed to talk with me. I
thought she was trying to pull one over
on me,but I finally agreed to meet her
over cocktails that evening. We met at
a place we both knew and ordered
drinks and then Kay dropped the bomb.
Another one of her ex-lovers, whom
she was sleeping with the same time as
me has been diagnosed as HIV positive.

Dear Sleepless,
First off, tell your lover.I can definitely
understand your being "chicken", but
news like this should never be kept
from a lover. It directly affects her and
you should sit down and explain the
entire situation immediately.
As I see it, perhaps the best option
available to you, Kay and your lover
may be to seek counseling. You could
also choose testing, but this is strictly
your decision. Weight it carefully.
Unfortunately, the lesbian community
has lulled itself into believing that they
are somehow mysteriously immune to

virus. AIDS does not
discriminate and the sooner we decide

A BAG

A Discussion of the "One-Night Stand"
by Kelly Chambers
Once,a long time ago, when I was much younger, much thinner and just
aut of the cioset, I was a novelty in the bar in my hometown. Of course,
there was only one bar and i was the youngest of it's patrons, i suppose
youth, in itself, was enough to moke me "desirable". Every time the bar
closed I wasswamped with offers of breakfast,after-hours parties and sex
(only the most forthright would actually state this as their goal).

I thought it was great fun to have
at least three girlfriends at one

do sleep around. You aren't surprised?
You shouldn't be. Despite the view of
some that lesbians are monogamous,
basically non-sexual beings,there sure

I won't argue with the fact that many
women are in loving, monogamous
relationships, but one does not always
lead to the other.
Last but not least, I have noticed that
many women believe a relationship can
be built on one drunken night in bed.
Needless to say,many wonderful,long-
lasting relationships have started out
just that way,but there has to be a much
firmer foundation to hold a relationship
together. Sure, you can find that

Short Story by Cameron Taylor
It's young love and our first trip. We are
traveling in two vehicles, me in the truck
with the camper, Jean in the car. We are
headed for my favorite lake to camp and
fish. Our first stop is atmy Aunt's to borrow
down on my back and Jean continues to
her boat.
"Will this tire make it to the lake?," I ask
growing. What else can go wrong?
We head for the other camp with Jean in the
looking over a tire that is paper thin.
"Sure, Honey, we drove it in that way,"
lead, she heads the wrong direction and I
signal her to pull over. She turns around and
question my thirty minute disappearance.
Not only are all the campsites taken, all the
cabins are full. We decide to drive to the
other side of the lake. My irritation is

lug wrench trying to break the lug nuts off
the boat trailer. No doubt they were the
originals and had never been off . Jean
screams,"Fluffy has afishhookinherpaw."
After ten minutes of Jean crying and the dog
yelping,I get the fish hook out with a pair of
pliers. I go back to the boat trailer where my
lug wrench is bent into a perfect "S" and
finally manage to get the tire off and the
spare on.I throw my bent lug wrench half
way across a North Texas pasture over
Jean's objection,"You'll need that."
I wonder if this means something? After all,
her. I am right behind Jean, but then I notice
- the boat isn't behind me anymore.
I get out and walk to the back of the truck.

Timing is everything and with an election coming up in November(they
had to remind us of this at the meeting),I urge you to put this month s
vour bills and make a check out to the PAC of your choice. Don t wait unti you
to sit through a meeting with a right-wing conservative discussing homosexua i y
make vou mad enough to donate money.
If you have questions or do not know the location of the PAC's in your state or area

A few words of advice about han
dling employment problems:
1. Do not answer employer questions
about your private life. These
questions are usually innappropiate
and in no way relate to your ability to
do the job.
2. Do not resign. A voluntary
resignation will often prevent you
from seeking legal remedies for the
way you were treated on the job.
3. Seek legal counsel if you believe
your job is in jeopardy.

Answers to your questions about love.
Dear Agnes,

specialty and never has been. The first
two years I lived in this relationship I
was sleeping with another woman. It
was no secret that I was sleeping with
her and things were OK. I ended up
giving up my other lover and settling
into a more or less monogamous
relationship. I have been very happy
and so has the woman I live with.
Everything was fine until about six
months ago. I got a call at work, from
Kay (not her real name) and she
desperately needed to talk with me. I
thought she was trying to pull one over
on me,but I finally agreed to meet her
over cocktails that evening. We met at
a place we both knew and ordered
drinks and then Kay dropped the bomb.
Another one of her ex-lovers, whom
she was sleeping with the same time as
me has been diagnosed as HIV positive.
Needless to say,I felt the floor drop out
Dear Sleepless,
First off, tell your lover.I can definitely
understand your being "chicken", but
news like this should never be kept
from a lover. It directly affects her and
you should sit down and explain the
entire situation immediately.
As I see it, perhaps the best option
available to you, Kay and your lover
may be to seek counseling. You could
also choose testing, but this is strictly
your decision. Weight it carefully.
Unfortunately, the lesbian community

A BAG
OF TRICKS
A Discussion of the "One-Night Stand"
by Kelly Chambers
Once,a long time ago, when I was much younger, much thinner and just
aut of the cioset, I was a novelty in the bar in my hometown. Of course,
there was only one bar and i was the youngest of it's patrons, i suppose
youth, in itself, was enough to moke me "desirable". Every time the bar
closed I wasswamped with offers of breakfast,after-hours parties and sex
(only the most forthright would actually state this as their goal).

Now,in the naivety of my youth,
I thought it was great fun to have
at least three girlfriends at one

I won't argue with the fact that many
women are in loving, monogamous
relationships, but one does not always
lead to the other.
Last but not least, I have noticed that
many women believe a relationship can
be built on one drunken night in bed.
Needless to say,many wonderful,long-
lasting relationships have started out
just that way,but there has to be a much
firmer foundation to hold a relationship
together. Sure, you can find that

Short Story by Cameron Taylor
It's young love and our first trip. We are
traveling in two vehicles, me in the truck
with the camper, Jean in the car. We are
headed for my favorite lake to camp and
fish. Our first stop is atmy Aunt's to borrow

"Will this tire make it to the lake?," I ask

We head for the other camp with Jean in the

cabins are full. We decide to drive to the

Jean's objection,"You'll need that."
I wonder if this means something? After all,
her. I am right behind Jean, but then I notice
- the boat isn't behind me anymore.
I get out and walk to the back of the truck.
Only half the hitch is there, and no boat. I
panic, jump in the truck and roar back down
the road.There, as I top thehill,is my Aunt's

she knew this,I think as I get outofthe truck.
No,she'd kill me.I get the boat off the road
and onto the edge of some guy's yard.
Jean is gone. I get back in the truck to hunt
