Senate Passes,

WASHINGTON — President Clinton

The Defense ofMarriage Act also seeks
to reinforce the right ofstates to ignore

The so-called Defense of Marriage Act
defines marriage in federal law as a
union between one man and one woman.
This will mean that when gay people
are someday allowed to marry in this
country, they will be unable to collect
each others' Social Security, veterans

prohibited from filing Joint f^eral in

This year, the conference will feature

of the bills and follow-up strategy.
Grassroots activists have been ponder

level since the bill mandates that states
are not obligated to extend "full faith

Creating Change will feature numerous
workshops designed to capture the cur

the movement. For example, there is
heavy emphasis on grassroots move

This includes a professionally facili

OKLAHOMA CITY,OK
Dear Out,
I assume from your letter that you have
never told her what you truly think
about her cooking. That's the most di
rect approach, but after thirteen years,
I'm not sure I would mention it.
You could give her cooking classes as a
gift (tell her you are giving it to her
because you know how much she loves
to cook and you thought she might
enjoy learning some "tricks" from a
gourmet chef). Or you might consider
investing in some Julia Childs' videos.
You might even develop a "great" in
terestin learning gourmetcooking your
self and ask her to loan you the kitchen
for a few months — she mightjust give
it up entirely.
One other solution might be a patio grill
— many times the kitchen cook shies
away from the grill. However, if she
decides she likes cooking on the grill,
your problems might only get worse.

Senate Passes,
Clinton Signs DOMA
WASHINGTON — President Clinton
has made a historical misjudgment by
signing the discriminatory "Defense of

presidentin history to trample on states'
traditional jurisdiction over marriage,"

The Defense ofMarriage Act also seeks
to reinforce the right ofstates to ignore
same-sex marriages performed in any
other state. However, there is no juris

marriages are legal.
The House passed the Defense of Mar

The so-called Defense of Marriage Act
defines marriage in federal law as a
union between one man and one woman.
This will mean that when gay people
are someday allowed to marry in this
country, they will be unable to collect
each others' Social Security, veterans

prohibited from filing Joint f^eral in

for granted.

Washington,D.C.—In the wake ofthe
recent passage ofthe anti-marriage bill
and defeat of the non-discrimination

this event, comingjust one day after the
national elections, will cap what can
only be described as a roller coaster
year of highs and lows for lesbians,
gays, bisexuals and transgenders.
"We predict a very strong turnout be

This year, the conference will feature
special workshops on DOMAyENDA,
including statewide organizing sessions
focusing on the grassroots implications
of the bills and follow-up strategy.
Grassroots activists have been ponder

level since the bill mandates that states
are not obligated to extend "full faith
and credit" recognition to marriages
performed in other states.
Creating Change will feature numerous
workshops designed to capture the cur

the movement. For example, there is
heavy emphasis on grassroots move
ment building and leadership training.
This includes a professionally facili

training session for g/l/b/t organiza

OUT OF THE KITCHEN
OKLAHOMA CITY,OK
Dear Out,
I assume from your letter that you have
never told her what you truly think
about her cooking. That's the most di
rect approach, but after thirteen years,
I'm not sure I would mention it.
You could give her cooking classes as a
gift (tell her you are giving it to her
because you know how much she loves
to cook and you thought she might
enjoy learning some "tricks" from a
gourmet chef). Or you might consider
investing in some Julia Childs' videos.
You might even develop a "great" in
terestin learning gourmetcooking your
self and ask her to loan you the kitchen
for a few months — she mightjust give
it up entirely.
One other solution might be a patio grill
— many times the kitchen cook shies
away from the grill. However, if she
decides she likes cooking on the grill,
your problems might only get worse.

Senate Passes,
Clinton Signs DOMA
WASHINGTON — President Clinton
has made a historical misjudgment by
signing the discriminatory "Defense of

The Defense ofMarriage Act also seeks
to reinforce the right ofstates to ignore
same-sex marriages performed in any

marriages are legal.
The House passed the Defense of Mar

The so-called Defense of Marriage Act
defines marriage in federal law as a
union between one man and one woman.
This will mean that when gay people
are someday allowed to marry in this
country, they will be unable to collect
each others' Social Security, veterans

prohibited from filing Joint f^eral in

for granted.

Washington,D.C.—In the wake ofthe
recent passage ofthe anti-marriage bill
and defeat of the non-discrimination
measure, registration to the 9th Creat

Task Force has surged. Sponsors say
this event, comingjust one day after the
national elections, will cap what can
only be described as a roller coaster
year of highs and lows for lesbians,
gays, bisexuals and transgenders.
"We predict a very strong turnout be
cause of the confluence of emotional
events this year," said Sue Hyde,
NGLTFconference coordinator."There

This year, the conference will feature
special workshops on DOMAyENDA,
including statewide organizing sessions
focusing on the grassroots implications
of the bills and follow-up strategy.
Grassroots activists have been ponder
ing the impact of DOMA on the local
level since the bill mandates that states
are not obligated to extend "full faith
and credit" recognition to marriages
performed in other states.
Creating Change will feature numerous
workshops designed to capture the cur
rent energy and channel the anxiety of
the movement. For example, there is
heavy emphasis on grassroots move
ment building and leadership training.
This includes a professionally facili
tated Leadership Training track con
ducted by nationally renowned con
sultant Karl Mathiasen and a leadership
training session for g/l/b/t organiza

consultant and trainer David Fleischer.
The Fleischer training is co-sponsored
by the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund.

OKLAHOMA CITY,OK
Dear Out,
I assume from your letter that you have
never told her what you truly think
about her cooking. That's the most di
rect approach, but after thirteen years,
I'm not sure I would mention it.
You could give her cooking classes as a
gift (tell her you are giving it to her
because you know how much she loves
to cook and you thought she might
enjoy learning some "tricks" from a
gourmet chef). Or you might consider
investing in some Julia Childs' videos.
You might even develop a "great" in
terestin learning gourmetcooking your
self and ask her to loan you the kitchen
for a few months — she mightjust give
it up entirely.
One other solution might be a patio grill
— many times the kitchen cook shies
away from the grill. However, if she
decides she likes cooking on the grill,
your problems might only get worse.
