FROM THE EDITOR
When we first began planning the original format of Dimensions, one primary
feature was a column that would cover 'WHAT'S COIN ON'. This column is a
service to our readers. It keeps them informed of upcoming events, conventions, and
activities in various cities. This is particularly good if you are traveling to a sistercity and wondering what events may be taking place during your visit there. In fact,
some events result in a trip you otherwise would not have planned.
Another service to "out of towners" is our directory. It lets people know where your
business or club is located. I have heard several times,"I didn't know they had a bar."
OR, "I thought they only had that one bar." The worst thing you can ever do is
assume people know about your business because, believe it or not, there are alot of
people who don't. This is esftecially true if a traveler is unfamiliar with your city and
does not have friends there.
Not only is 'WHAT'S COIN ON' a service to our readers, but to the businesses and
organizations who are featured in the column each month. It is free advertising for
your business. There are some events we miss because we are uninformed. We do not
have representatives in every city. Fortunately, we have Debbie Marshall and Debbie
Scott in the Houston area. Many times we receive press releases to late for
publication. This is unfortunate for both your organization and our readers who may
miss out because they were not informed.
Our deadline is the 20th of the month prior to publication (for the September issue,
we must receive press releases and correspondence on August 20th, even sooner if
possible). If it arrives later, we cannot get it in.
We welcome your calls and correspondence. One of our main purposes is to inform.
Please notify us about what the most convenient time to reach you is. If we call to
verify an event or confirm information, please let our staff know when the most
convenient time and place to contact you is. It cost us money and time to run people
down on the phone, both of which we have precious litde of.
We appreciate your assistance and continued support.

Dear Editor,
The poem "I Know a Woman Who Loves

WARNING 1 11
FT. WORTH POLICE PLACE FAKE GAY AD
According to the TCGA NEWS Tarrant
County Gay Alliance has discovered that a
telephone number listed in a piersonal
advertisement in an area gay publication
belongs to the City of Fort Worth, and is
ajjparendy being answered by the Fort
Worth Police.
A local man notified
Tarrant Coimty Gay Alliance that he was
supposed to meet with the man in the
advertisement, but he never showed up,
and also acted strange. When he began
receiving harassing telephone calls a few
days later, he became worried that the
advertisement may have been a phony
placed by an anti-gay hate group. A few
months ago in Illinois, a hate group
placed a fake personal ad in a gay
publication. When the ad was answered,
the group sent copies of the replies to
neighbors and employers, along with a
warning to 'avoid this homosexual at all
costs.' A member of the Gay Alhance
called the number printed in the
advertisement (shown at right). A man's
voice on an answering machine urged the
caller to leave information, and stating
that "Your call is very important to me,
and I am very discreet." This seemed like
a very odd message to put on an answering
machine, so further investigation revealed
that the telephone was located at 350 West
Belknap Street, on the third floor. This
address was not familiar to the TCGA
investigator, but he guessed it might be
the housing project at Belknap and
Henderson streets. He decided to drive to
the address, and was shocked to find that
the address is that of the new county jail
and Fort Worth Policy admimstration
building west of the Court House. The
directory in the lobby showed the Police
Investigative Division on the third floor.
The TCGA mvestigator reported an
overwhelming feeling of disgust as he
discovered that this fake ad to entrap gays
was not placed by some kook, but by the
Fort Worth Police, who are paid through
his taxes to "protect" him.

Windham promised an open line of

last year the city's only gay bookstore.

he has never run into a situation like this,

whether this sort of activity is a proper

Confused In Denton
Dear Agnes,
I moved to Houston three weeks ago.
I am eighteen and 1 have a lover who
had to stay home while I am here
going to school. I'm very in love
with her. Since I came here I decided
to see how much I love her and how
faithful I am. So I tried going out to
the clubs here and I met nice loking
women that were interested in me. I
noticed that I didn't want of feel
-13- anything for them.
My lover is only 16 and, according to
the law, she cannot leave home until
she is 17. Her parents hate me
because they won't accept that we are
gay and love each other. So, I can't
over and over. If you find a way to get
mail to your lover, be aware that she
needs to be very, very careful with
those letters. Especially in her parents

WAYS TO MAKE
SURE A ROMANCE
DOESN'T WORK
No,these aren't recommendations,
but rather things to watch out for!
by Ashley Taylor
1. On the First date, vou talk about
having a commitment.
Concentrate on having a good time
and getting to know each other. Don't
be pushy about a commitment, you
might push that person away.
2.Nag and worry about her ex.
Come on girls everyone is allowed to
have a past. Concentrate on making
your current relationship satisfying
for both of you.
3.Take vour date to the bar and then
gripe about who she dances with.
That's what bars are for, to socialize
somewhat femme, don't tell your date
all about picking out nail polish. Try
to talk about things both of you can
get into.
5. Think that evervone is after vour
woman. Don't be possessive. You
might think that your girlfriend is topnotch, but to others she may be like
Lassie; friendly but too furry.
G. Take her for granted. Expect to
have a meal on the table and your
clothes washed. If you keep doing
this, you will run her off and then
you'll have to eat your own cooking.
and have a good time. If you can't
handle that, then I wish you good
7. Love her onlv when she's haonv

come over and dance with only you in
between commercials on your stereo.
strong and confident. She needs you
more when she is down and out If
you won't give her support, there is
always someone else who will.
4. If vou are into athletics and vour

slide into home plate. If you are
8. After the 1st, night vou sleep

tell
her
she
reminds
vou of so & so in bed. Then you can
then try yelling "Good morning" as
she is walking out the front door.
9. Criticize the dresses she wears. At
least, her wardrobe does not consist
strictly of 501s and flannel shirts.
There's always someone who will like
everything you like.
12.Get angrv and make a scene if she
talks to her ex. Get a grip. Honey! It
says alot about a person if they can be
friends with their ex-lovers. Are you
friends with any of yours?
that dress or the stores wouldn't sell

lover to do evervthing with vou.
Sometimes it is nice to go shop with
a friend or have a beer. Let your wife
out of the house without you being
10 inches behind her and you might
have more things to talk about when
you are together. A relationship that
puts other activities and friends in the
back seat is more than likely headed

Everyone has an off day. It's ok for
her to "muddy" her white horse—
haven't you muddied yours a couple of
times.
11. Expect vour girlfiiend to think
vour best friend is super. Just because
you enjoy watching your firiend slam
down beers and dance on tables,
doesn't mean your girlfriend does.
You can not expect her to like
for disaster.
Of course, you should take all this

She preceded to tell me how she had to

any great relationship, you never fight,
you "discuss") This also brings about a
new definition of the "barter system. You
pick up your clothes, I'll put the TP
under.
During all these discussions (if you are
both still in one piece), you slip into the
"Mellowing Stage." You start to accept
the fact that while your lover does have
faults, so do you. You are not going to
agree on, or like everything that she does.
You are two separate people and it does
take alot of work and communication to
become one.
She is still the "Ms. Right" you thought
she was, only better; because during the
first year, you also found a friend with a
shoulder to lean on, a siniling face to
come home to at the endnf a bad day. In
short, someone to share the good as well
as the has times with, someone who
understands you.

how other people see you. You
most likely spend so much time
worrying about what you do
wrong that you don't see any of
your strong points. Work on
identifying the reasons you feel
insecure and then go on a big
self-improvement kick. You
will be surprised at the things

The first week of August may be

find you making a major decision or

a promotion for you. Remember to show
appreciation to the people who have
supported you; especially love ones.

(Dec 22-Jan 20)
The first week of August is a great
time to keep your energies focused on
work. Don't get side-tracked. Your love
life may be falling apart over jealousy this

pressure. Seek it from good friends. The
may be highly

humor, it wUl help get you through.
Midweek things calm down and you may
meet someone you are very attracted to.
Have an open mind. The 17th to the

attractions and commitments. There are
hard decisions ahead in both love and
career. Choose wisely. There are financial
rewards associated with all this upheaval.
The last week of August may find

FROM THE EDITOR
When we first began planning the original format of Dimensions, one primary
feature was a column that would cover 'WHAT'S COIN ON'. This column is a
service to our readers. It keeps them informed of upcoming events, conventions, and
activities in various cities. This is particularly good if you are traveling to a sistercity and wondering what events may be taking place during your visit there. In fact,
some events result in a trip you otherwise would not have planned.
Another service to "out of towners" is our directory. It lets people know where your
business or club is located. I have heard several times,"I didn't know they had a bar."
OR, "I thought they only had that one bar." The worst thing you can ever do is
assume people know about your business because, believe it or not, there are alot of
people who don't. This is esftecially true if a traveler is unfamiliar with your city and
does not have friends there.
Not only is 'WHAT'S COIN ON' a service to our readers, but to the businesses and
organizations who are featured in the column each month. It is free advertising for
your business. There are some events we miss because we are uninformed. We do not
have representatives in every city. Fortunately, we have Debbie Marshall and Debbie
Scott in the Houston area. Many times we receive press releases to late for
publication. This is unfortunate for both your organization and our readers who may
miss out because they were not informed.
Our deadline is the 20th of the month prior to publication (for the September issue,
we must receive press releases and correspondence on August 20th, even sooner if
possible). If it arrives later, we cannot get it in.
We welcome your calls and correspondence. One of our main purposes is to inform.
Please notify us about what the most convenient time to reach you is. If we call to
verify an event or confirm information, please let our staff know when the most
convenient time and place to contact you is. It cost us money and time to run people
down on the phone, both of which we have precious litde of.
We appreciate your assistance and continued support.

Dear Editor,
The poem "I Know a Woman Who Loves

WARNING 1 11
FT. WORTH POLICE PLACE FAKE GAY AD
According to the TCGA NEWS Tarrant
County Gay Alliance has discovered that a
telephone number listed in a piersonal
advertisement in an area gay publication
belongs to the City of Fort Worth, and is
ajjparendy being answered by the Fort
Worth Police.
A local man notified
Tarrant Coimty Gay Alliance that he was
supposed to meet with the man in the
advertisement, but he never showed up,
and also acted strange. When he began
receiving harassing telephone calls a few
days later, he became worried that the
advertisement may have been a phony
placed by an anti-gay hate group. A few
months ago in Illinois, a hate group
placed a fake personal ad in a gay
publication. When the ad was answered,
the group sent copies of the replies to
neighbors and employers, along with a
warning to 'avoid this homosexual at all
costs.' A member of the Gay Alhance
called the number printed in the
advertisement (shown at right). A man's
voice on an answering machine urged the
caller to leave information, and stating
that "Your call is very important to me,
and I am very discreet." This seemed like
a very odd message to put on an answering
machine, so further investigation revealed
that the telephone was located at 350 West
Belknap Street, on the third floor. This
address was not familiar to the TCGA
investigator, but he guessed it might be
the housing project at Belknap and
Henderson streets. He decided to drive to
the address, and was shocked to find that
the address is that of the new county jail
and Fort Worth Policy admimstration
building west of the Court House. The
directory in the lobby showed the Police
Investigative Division on the third floor.
The TCGA mvestigator reported an
overwhelming feeling of disgust as he
discovered that this fake ad to entrap gays
was not placed by some kook, but by the
Fort Worth Police, who are paid through
his taxes to "protect" him.

Dear Agnes,

WAYS TO MAKE
SURE A ROMANCE
DOESN'T WORK
No,these aren't recommendations,
but rather things to watch out for!
by Ashley Taylor
1. On the First date, vou talk about
having a commitment.
Concentrate on having a good time
and getting to know each other. Don't
be pushy about a commitment, you
might push that person away.
2.Nag and worry about her ex.
Come on girls everyone is allowed to
have a past. Concentrate on making
your current relationship satisfying
for both of you.
3.Take vour date to the bar and then
gripe about who she dances with.
That's what bars are for, to socialize
somewhat femme, don't tell your date
all about picking out nail polish. Try
to talk about things both of you can
get into.
5. Think that evervone is after vour
woman. Don't be possessive. You
might think that your girlfriend is topnotch, but to others she may be like
Lassie; friendly but too furry.
G. Take her for granted. Expect to
have a meal on the table and your
clothes washed. If you keep doing
this, you will run her off and then
you'll have to eat your own cooking.
and have a good time. If you can't
handle that, then I wish you good
7. Love her onlv when she's haonv
luck when you invite your date to
come over and dance with only you in
between commercials on your stereo.
strong and confident. She needs you
more when she is down and out If
you won't give her support, there is
always someone else who will.
4. If vou are into athletics and vour
date isn't, do not talk about how to
slide into home plate. If you are
8. After the 1st, night vou sleep
16- together,
tell
her
she
reminds
vou of so & so in bed. Then you can
then try yelling "Good morning" as
she is walking out the front door.
9. Criticize the dresses she wears. At
least, her wardrobe does not consist
strictly of 501s and flannel shirts.
There's always someone who will like
everything you like.
12.Get angrv and make a scene if she
talks to her ex. Get a grip. Honey! It
says alot about a person if they can be
friends with their ex-lovers. Are you
friends with any of yours?
that dress or the stores wouldn't sell
13. Last but not least, expect vour
iL
lover to do evervthing with vou.
Sometimes it is nice to go shop with
a friend or have a beer. Let your wife
out of the house without you being
10 inches behind her and you might
have more things to talk about when
you are together. A relationship that
puts other activities and friends in the
back seat is more than likely headed
10. Expect vour girlfriend to he

everyday.
Everyone has an off day. It's ok for
her to "muddy" her white horse—
haven't you muddied yours a couple of
times.
11. Expect vour girlfiiend to think
vour best friend is super. Just because
you enjoy watching your firiend slam
down beers and dance on tables,
doesn't mean your girlfriend does.
You can not expect her to like
for disaster.
Of course, you should take all this
with several grains of salt and please

We (I)decided the repairs should be made

Needless to say, I thought she had great
patience for restraining herself that long.
I saw just how much patience when I
walked into the kitchen and saw water on

from the woman-made fountain.
She preceded to tell me how she had to

Whatever anyone has told you about not

This is what I call "The Awakening" She

damned hard to make love through fifteen
blankets.) She puts all her clothes away

any great relationship, you never fight,
you "discuss") This also brings about a
new definition of the "barter system. You
pick up your clothes, I'll put the TP
under.
During all these discussions (if you are
both still in one piece), you slip into the
"Mellowing Stage." You start to accept
the fact that while your lover does have
faults, so do you. You are not going to
agree on, or like everything that she does.
You are two separate people and it does
take alot of work and communication to
become one.
She is still the "Ms. Right" you thought
she was, only better; because during the
first year, you also found a friend with a
shoulder to lean on, a siniling face to
come home to at the endnf a bad day. In
short, someone to share the good as well
as the has times with, someone who
understands you.

SAGinARIUS
(Nov23-Dec21)
The first week of August may be
rough in the romance department. You
may have read the cards all wrong about
you feeling pressured to achieve. Most
likely, loved ones are where the pressure is
what your prospective lover wants (or
wanted). Don't fret, get out and mingle.

Toward the end of the week, work will
occupy more and more of your time. The

Concentrate your energies on work and
making plans. This is a great time to plan
your vacation. The 17th to the 23rd
may find some Sagittarians off on
vacation. Some may be working on plans
(educational, career, etc..). Midweek could
find you making a major decision or
comittment about a relationship. The last
week of August centers around work
and career for Sagittariuns. There could be
a promotion for you. Remember to show
appreciation to the people who have
supported you; especially love ones.
CAPRICORN
(Dec 22-Jan 20)
The first week of August is a great
time to keep your energies focused on
work. Don't get side-tracked. Your love
life may be falling apart over jealousy this
coming from. You need support, not
pressure. Seek it from good friends. The
may be highly
emotional days. Keep your sense of
humor, it wUl help get you through.
Midweek things calm down and you may
meet someone you are very attracted to.
Have an open mind. The 17th to the
23rd may find you caught between
attractions and commitments. There are
hard decisions ahead in both love and
career. Choose wisely. There are financial
rewards associated with all this upheaval.
The last week of August may find
you studying your financial situation
rather closely. Toward the end of the week
make time for love and social affairs. You
have earned some fun.

The first week of August may find

After Hollywood producer Samuel Goldwyn bought the screen
