- Title
- TOHR Pyramid Project News : no.10(2003:Oct.)
- Description
- The October 2003 issue of TOHR's Pyramid Project News documents ongoing efforts to establish a permanent LGBTQ+ community center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The issue highlights a $25,000 matching donation pledged by Mitchell Savage and Michael Smith, encouraging new donors to contribute to the capital campaign. It also celebrates the success of the Tulsa Women's Tea Dance, which raised over $5,000, and previews the second annual OUT OK International Film Festival, showcasing LGBTQ+ films and supporting the Pyramid Project. The newsletter introduces an endowment fund initiated by a $10,000 donation from Mona Pittenger to sustain the future of the center. Updates on the project's financial milestones, house parties, and sponsorships illustrate the collective dedication of the Tulsa community to LGBTQ+ advocacy and safe spaces.

October 2003
$25,000 Match Announced
Inside this issue:
From New York City, Mitchell Savage and Michael Smith, pledge
$25,000 to match donors of Pyramid Project Capital Campaign.
"Mitch and Michael have been early and generous supporters of TOHR 's
capital campaign", says Sue Welch , Pyramid Project Chair. "Their truly
generous nature, love for the Tulsa community and understanding of the
many needs here, have been a motivation for them to continue their
giving, even from the exciting faraway location of New York City."
Mitchell and Michael now reside in New York City but their hearts still
remain tied to Tulsa . Their dedication to this project rings true in their
own words, "Since the inception of the Pyramid Project, we have been
consistently impressed with the vision , conscientiousness and
determination of the project coordinators . We hope that you too will
accept this opportunity to change lives, mend hearts and win freedom .
Join us in support of the Pyramid Project. You may never have a more
profound chance to change the world right here in your hometown ."
Mitch and Michael offer this $25,000 match in a very special way. The
Steering Committee of TOHR's Pyramid Project has been asked to
obtain matching funds of individual donations of $500 or less, and from
new donors to the capital campaign . "This will be a challenging task and
one that we are delighted to undertake," says Welch . "We thank Mitch
and Michael for their confidence, thoughtfulness and philanthropic spirit."

$10,000 Gift Initiates Endowment Account
Recently a generous donation of $10,000 was given to TOHR's Pyramid Project,
by Mona Pittenger. The Pyramid Project Steering Committee has a goal of
establishing a healthy endowment to sustain a permanent GLBT Community
Center. This gift will be used as earmarked, to open an endowment trust account
at The Tulsa Community Foundation. By depositing this contribution into the
Pyramid Project Endowment Fund now, a conservative, fiscally responsible
approach to building ownership is established. The earnings from the principal in
this reserve account are earmarked for capital improvements of the building.
Most non-profits fail to set aside an adequate amount of money for future needs,
particularly as it relates to capital improvements or large capital maintenance
projects. Coming from a commercial real estate lending background, Mona
believes that a "rainy day fund" is critical for successfu l long term ownership and
maintenance of a quality facility. She is very pleased to see her donation
handled in this way.
Thank you Mona for gifting the community with your generous spirit!
