COMMUNITY HOLIDAY DINNER &
SILENT AUCTION START
A tradition continues as Tulsa Oklahomans
for Human Rights presents the annual Community
Holiday Dinner. The dinner will be held at the
Tulsa Gay, Lesbian, Bi & Transgender Community
Center Tuesday, December 11 beginning at 7:00
PM. During the dinner, the candidates for the 2001
executive committee of TOHR will be introduced.
Chili - mild to spicy - with all the condiments: cheese, crackers, onions, etc. is the menu.
A Silent Auction with many items up for bid also
begins that evening and· runs until 7:00 PM Friday,
the 14th. (refer to page 11 for auction items).
The evening is free, however, donations
will be accepted.
FRIDAY; DECEMBER 14, 2001 - 5:00-7:00 PM
DESSERT RECEPTION & SILENT AUCTION END
The fun doesn't stop on Tuesday - it goes right through 'til Friday.
An elegant Dessert Reception begins at 5 PM and runs until 7:00 PM. Desserts, holiday drinks and more await you this evening. Featured during the reception will be the Silent Auction (refer page 11 for audion items) and surprises.
The Dessert Reception is TOHR's way of saying 'thanks' to the community
for supporting the organization and is your last chance to bid on items during the
silent audion. But the fun doesn't stop at 7 - it goes into the night!
FRIDAY; DECEMBER 14, 2001 • 7:00 PM

THE WOMYN'S COMING OUT GROUP
Coming out of the closet is a lifelong process. First, to
yourself, then to family and friends, your work - it goes on
and on - never stopping.
Many people, you probably know someone-maybe
even you!, would like someone to talk to about the steps
they can take or are in the process of taking.
A group, just for you - or a friend, has been started by
Tulsa Oklahomans for Human Rights (TOHR)! The Womyn's Coming Out Support Group had their first meeting
recently and look forward to the coming year.
The Womyn's Coming Out Group meets every other
Saturday at 4:00 PM at the Tulsa GLBT Community Center. Call 743.4297 - ask for Angela for more information.

ONE WHO HAS SIGNIFICANT
(TO ONESELF) SEXUAL OR ROMANTIC
ATTRACTIONS TO MEMBERS OF BOTH
THE SAME GENDER AND/OR SEX
The Bi(sexual) person, a large part of the Gay, Lesbian, Bi and Transgender community, is often misunderstood.
Contrary to popular myths, people who are attracted to
members of both genders or sexes (just like people who
are attracted only to members of the same or other gender
or sex) may be monogamous, polyfidelitous or nonmonogamous.
Derogatory terms from homophobes are the same as
those for gays and lesbians, plus AC/DC, double-ga(l)ted,
or confused. Derogatory terms used by lesbians, gay men
and some heterosexuals include: traitor, fraternizing with
the enemy or just confused.
Bi phobia is the oppression or mistreatment of bisexuals either by heterosexuals (often called homophobia if it
d~s not target bisexuals separately from gay men & lesbians), or by lesbians or gay men
Did, or does, someone hate or fear you because of
who you are attracted too? If you're gay or lesbian, that
answer is true. If you're bi, that is also true. But, some of
those who do not like bi's are in the GLBT community.
Is that the way you would like to be treated. Think
about it. You might have been there.

SALVATION ARMY AT IT AGAIN!
GLBT COMMUNITY URGED NOT
TO GIVE TO SALVATION ARMY
Salvation Army leadership recently rescinded domestic
partnership status for the V\(estem territory due to extremist
fundamentals striving to take the organization back to the
stone age.
This, combined with secret deal making with the Bush
administration to discriminate against the Gay, Lesbian, Bi
and Transgender allied community as part of the "faith- .. TOHR . SUPPORTING OTHERS
based" initiative, has prompted action.
Taking action against discrimination, the TOHR Board

GLBT FAMILIES BY GIVING
The time of giving is upon us; from hectic malls to
online shopping sites - almost everyone is busy with the
holidays. This year, let's look beyond gifts for family and
friends. Remember that the holiday season is also a great
time to help the less fortunate - as it should be all the time.
Tulsa Oklahomans for Human Rights (TOHR) has established the "FAIRY TREE" for our GLBT community in
need.
A few families have been chosen, that without your
help, will not have a holiday season.
The "FAIRY TREE" is located at the Tulsa Gay, Lesbian, Bi and Transgender (GLBT) Community Center,
2114 S Memorial.
Here's what you do:
1. Go by the community center and find a holiday 'tag'
hanging on the fairy tree.
2. Pick a tag that you would like to fill the request(s).
3. Fill out the bottom portion of the tag, tear it off and
give to· the volunteer in the Pride Store. (if the store is
not open, slide it under the door).
4. Go shopping! Get your gift(s)!
5. Deliver the wrapped or unwrapped gift(s), along with
tag, back to the GLBT Community Center no later
than December 19th.
Your job is now done! And because of
y9u - someone less fortunate will have a
better holiday season.

A tradition continues as Tulsa Oklahomans
for Human Rights presents the annual Community
Holiday Dinner. The dinner will be held at the
Tulsa Gay, Lesbian, Bi & Transgender Community
Center Tuesday, December 11 beginning at 7:00
PM. During the dinner, the candidates for the 2001

Chili - mild to spicy - with all the condiments: cheese, crackers, onions, etc. is the menu.
A Silent Auction with many items up for bid also
begins that evening and· runs until 7:00 PM Friday,

The Dessert Reception is TOHR's way of saying 'thanks' to the community
for supporting the organization and is your last chance to bid on items during the
silent audion. But the fun doesn't stop at 7 - it goes into the night!
FRIDAY; DECEMBER 14, 2001 • 7:00 PM
