----
A huge thank you goes out to the entire
commu11it:1 for their support of this
year's Pride celebration. Several factors
no doubt contributed to the great turnout for this year's events: the I st Pride
Parade in Tulsa; Congressman Barney
Frank as the Grand Marshal and Featured Speaker; and the controversy
caused by the Tulsa City Council and
the usual slate of protestors.
Whatever the
reason for the
turnout, eveIf you didn't
ryone seemed
to have a great know ... TOHR took
time this year.
2nd Place in the
We
thought
OKC Pride Parade
last yea r's Picnic was a feat
for Best Float!
to pull off, but
this year far
11111111
exceeded our expectations AND the results from last yea r. Starting the day
with the picnic at 10:00 AM led by
Grand Marshal Barney Frank, there
were over 40 entries in the parade with
scores of walkers. Few of our critics expected the over 1,000 participants in the
parade. The finale of the parade was the
18 foot wide by 120 foot long Pride flag
carried by a group of wa lkers. Look for
this flag to continue as a fixture for many
years to come.
Although the crowd of onlookers was
sometimes sparse for the parade as it
wound up Peoria to 31st Street to Riverside and ended at Veterans Park, there
was a terrific group waiting at the park to
welcome the marchers, floats and cars.
There were lots of great entries in the
parade, including Best Float winners, the
Gay Volleyball League, and Best Marching Unit, the Oklahoma Intercollegiate
Gay & Lesbian Alliance.
The Picnic kicked off earli er than
planned at 11 :00 AM and was in full
swing by
oon, when Congressman
Frank spoke. The entertainment for the
day was phenomenal . The variety of
the booths was terrific. Everyone had an
opportunity to reall y enjoy the day.
Luckily the weather held out and, although a littl e muggy, it turned out to be
a great day for a picnic. Turnout for this
year's picnic is estimated at 2,000 to
2,500.
The Pride weekend kicked off with a
showing of "Stonewall" on Thursday
night at the Tulsa Gay Community
Services Center. More than 30 people
rurncd out fo:- t!:c show i,1g, despite aircond itioning problems and a lack of water early in the even ing.
A smaller event was held later Saturday
evening for those wanting to get a little
dressed up. Co-hosted by TOHR and
Cima rron Alli ance and billed as "Pride &
Power: An Evening with the Honorable
Barney Frank," the dinner was preceded
by two receptions. An open cash bar
was available to everyone starting at 7:00
PM , and hour before the dinner. A VIP
reception was also held at 7:00 P 1 for
those willing to pay the extra money,
giving those peopl e an opportunity to
meet Congressman Frank one-on-one.

(Cu11///111C'djim11 page
I.
" S11ffess")
Attendance at the dinner was estimated at 200, VIP reception attendance at 85.
A final event for the \\'Cckcnd \\':lS held at Fellowship Congregational Church on Sunday morning. The l ntcrfaith
Prayer Breakfast was co-hosted by TOHR and the Parish
Church of St. Jerome. Turnout was good for the breakfast
but, unfortunately, Congressman Frank had to leave Tulsa
before the breakfast even started, due to a schedule change.
The breakfast still allowed the faith communities of Tulsa
to come together in a common pursuit.
Again, thank you to the entire Tulsa community for the
support of this year's Pride events. If we continue to work
together in this way, there is nothing that we can't accomplish .

abo\·c and beyond in everything that you did!
TOHR Uoard Members Lynn J\lostollcr, Kathy Dales and

The Pride Picnic and Parade would not ha\·c been

Chorale, MCC United, PFLAG Tulsa, and Parish Church
of St. Jerome.
Again, thank you to all that helped with this year's Pride.
Without your help, it would not have happened.

Congressman Frank
Has Much to Say
Congressman Barney Frank spoke at both the Pride Picnic
and the Black-Tie (optional) Dinner that followed on Saturday evening. Congressman Frank had much to say at both
events. but there are a couple of points that are most important. First of all, he made the point at both events that the
one thing of utmost importance is that we all be registered
to vote, first of all, and that we follow through and actually
vote in every election. That is the way that we make our
voices heard most effectively. And the voting doesn't just
count once every other year or every four years. We have
to vote in each and every election from the City Council all
the way to the Presidency.
The second point is very much related to the first. We must
become active participants in the legislative process. We
have to be organized and actively contact our legislators and
other elected officials. Other groups, including the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) have already recognized
this importance and are know for organizing and executing
effective letter-writing and phone call campaigns to influence legislation. Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender
people have the same ability and opportunity to effect
change in the country. If we all work together, along with
our family and friends, we can change the oppressive attitude in this country.
Now is the time for the GLBT Community in Tulsa to pull
together. TOHR is an organization serving the entire community regardless of any differences. By working together,
we can change the attitudes in Tulsa, the state of Oklahoma
and the United States; we can improve our Community
Center and provide service to the entire community; we can
fight for equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. Please work with TOHR by joining us in
our fight for equal, not special, rights.

----
A huge thank you goes out to the entire
commu11it:1 for their support of this
year's Pride celebration. Several factors
no doubt contributed to the great turnout for this year's events: the I st Pride
Parade in Tulsa; Congressman Barney
Frank as the Grand Marshal and Featured Speaker; and the controversy
caused by the Tulsa City Council and
the usual slate of protestors.
Whatever the
reason for the
turnout, eveIf you didn't
ryone seemed
to have a great know ... TOHR took
time this year.
2nd Place in the
We
thought
OKC Pride Parade
last yea r's Picnic was a feat
for Best Float!
to pull off, but
this year far
11111111
exceeded our expectations AND the results from last yea r. Starting the day
with the picnic at 10:00 AM led by
Grand Marshal Barney Frank, there
were over 40 entries in the parade with
scores of walkers. Few of our critics expected the over 1,000 participants in the
parade. The finale of the parade was the
18 foot wide by 120 foot long Pride flag
carried by a group of wa lkers. Look for
this flag to continue as a fixture for many
years to come.
Although the crowd of onlookers was
sometimes sparse for the parade as it
wound up Peoria to 31st Street to Riverside and ended at Veterans Park, there
was a terrific group waiting at the park to
welcome the marchers, floats and cars.
There were lots of great entries in the
parade, including Best Float winners, the
Gay Volleyball League, and Best Marching Unit, the Oklahoma Intercollegiate
Gay & Lesbian Alliance.
The Picnic kicked off earli er than
planned at 11 :00 AM and was in full
swing by
oon, when Congressman
Frank spoke. The entertainment for the
day was phenomenal . The variety of
the booths was terrific. Everyone had an
opportunity to reall y enjoy the day.
Luckily the weather held out and, although a littl e muggy, it turned out to be
a great day for a picnic. Turnout for this
year's picnic is estimated at 2,000 to
2,500.
The Pride weekend kicked off with a
showing of "Stonewall" on Thursday
night at the Tulsa Gay Community
Services Center. More than 30 people
rurncd out fo:- t!:c show i,1g, despite aircond itioning problems and a lack of water early in the even ing.
A smaller event was held later Saturday
evening for those wanting to get a little
dressed up. Co-hosted by TOHR and
Cima rron Alli ance and billed as "Pride &
Power: An Evening with the Honorable
Barney Frank," the dinner was preceded
by two receptions. An open cash bar
was available to everyone starting at 7:00
PM , and hour before the dinner. A VIP
reception was also held at 7:00 P 1 for
those willing to pay the extra money,
giving those peopl e an opportunity to
meet Congressman Frank one-on-one.

(Cu11///111C'djim11 page
I.

TOHR Uoard Members Lynn J\lostollcr, Kathy Dales and

The Pride Picnic and Parade would not ha\·c been

Men Attracted to Men
----
A huge thank you goes out to the entire
commu11it:1 for their support of this
year's Pride celebration. Several factors
no doubt contributed to the great turnout for this year's events: the I st Pride
Parade in Tulsa; Congressman Barney
Frank as the Grand Marshal and Featured Speaker; and the controversy
caused by the Tulsa City Council and
the usual slate of protestors.
Whatever the
reason for the
turnout, eveIf you didn't
ryone seemed
to have a great know ... TOHR took
time this year.
2nd Place in the
We
thought
OKC Pride Parade
last yea r's Picnic was a feat
for Best Float!
to pull off, but
this year far
11111111
exceeded our expectations AND the results from last yea r. Starting the day
with the picnic at 10:00 AM led by
Grand Marshal Barney Frank, there
were over 40 entries in the parade with
scores of walkers. Few of our critics expected the over 1,000 participants in the
parade. The finale of the parade was the
18 foot wide by 120 foot long Pride flag
carried by a group of wa lkers. Look for
this flag to continue as a fixture for many
years to come.
Although the crowd of onlookers was
sometimes sparse for the parade as it
wound up Peoria to 31st Street to Riverside and ended at Veterans Park, there
was a terrific group waiting at the park to
welcome the marchers, floats and cars.
There were lots of great entries in the
parade, including Best Float winners, the
Gay Volleyball League, and Best Marching Unit, the Oklahoma Intercollegiate
Gay & Lesbian Alliance.
The Picnic kicked off earli er than
planned at 11 :00 AM and was in full
swing by
oon, when Congressman
Frank spoke. The entertainment for the
day was phenomenal . The variety of
the booths was terrific. Everyone had an
opportunity to reall y enjoy the day.
Luckily the weather held out and, although a littl e muggy, it turned out to be
a great day for a picnic. Turnout for this
year's picnic is estimated at 2,000 to
2,500.
The Pride weekend kicked off with a
showing of "Stonewall" on Thursday
night at the Tulsa Gay Community
Services Center. More than 30 people
rurncd out fo:- t!:c show i,1g, despite aircond itioning problems and a lack of water early in the even ing.
A smaller event was held later Saturday
evening for those wanting to get a little
dressed up. Co-hosted by TOHR and
Cima rron Alli ance and billed as "Pride &
Power: An Evening with the Honorable
Barney Frank," the dinner was preceded
by two receptions. An open cash bar
was available to everyone starting at 7:00
PM , and hour before the dinner. A VIP
reception was also held at 7:00 P 1 for
those willing to pay the extra money,
giving those peopl e an opportunity to
meet Congressman Frank one-on-one.

(Cu11///111C'djim11 page
I.

TOHR Uoard Members Lynn J\lostollcr, Kathy Dales and

The Pride Picnic and Parade would not ha\·c been

Chorale, MCC United, PFLAG Tulsa, and Parish Church
