"Building a Home ... Funding the Future "
Happy New Year!
As we start this new year, the Pyramid Project Steering Committee and the
Board of Tulsa Oklahomans for Human Rights (TOHR) would like to take this
opportunity to thank you . Many of you have given of your time, talent and financial resources to make this capital campaign successful. Capital campaigns
usually take a minimum of 2-5 years to complete. Even though there is much
work to be done, we wish to celebrate the following milestones with you!
Inside this issue:
1
State of the
Campaign
PYRAMETER
We are pleased to announce that nearly a quarter of a million dollars has been
raised in pledges and donations. And , with your help, we achieved our 2002
year-end goal of having $150,000 CASH in the Tulsa Community Foundation
Trust Fund .
During the year 2003, our fundrais ing focus and activities will include; hosting
private house parties, reaching out to the allied community, offering Community
Center naming opportunities, initiation of an endowment trust fund to be held at
the Tulsa Community Foundation and of course, the annual Wild Hearts Ball!
The recently elected TOHR Board and its Pyramid Project steering committee
consist of professionals in a variety of fields. We are comm itted to taking the
necessary legal and fiscal steps to secure a permanent home and endowment
for the GLBT Community Center.
Performers, restaurants , salons, florists , artists and retail stores have donated
products and services. This has enabled us to abide by our commitment to
spend only 8% of non-restricted funds on marketing and fundraising. Most
other non-profits spend 25% or more on these items. Ph il Lakin , Director of the
Tulsa Community Foundation , has stated that TOHR's Pyramid Project Capital
Campaign would likely be given an "A" rating for it's conservative spending.

The campaign has donors who give for many reasons. Parents have given in
recognition of their GLBT chi ldren , loved ones have given in honor of those with
HIV and AIDS , native Okies living out of state, have given for the betterment of
their hometown, allies have given in support of their GLBT friends, GLBT individuals have given to help serve and improve their own community.
Funding the Future"
$1,000,000 GOAL

with each of your meaningful contributions. Every gift is critical to the success of
this capital campaign. By helping provide for a permanent facility for the Tulsa
GLBT Community Center, you are truly contributing to a better future for Northeast Oklahoma GLBTs, their families, friends and allies for generations to come.

Why you are involved in
TOHR's capital campaign,
the Pyramid Project:
Occupation: Magazine editor
Being part of a community is
important for everyone, but it is
especially meaningful for gays
and lesbians and other peoples
who are marginalized from society
at large. I am particularly
concerned about young people
in this area of the country.
Having a permanent home for
The Tulsa Gay, Lesbian , Bisexual
and Transgender Community
Center - a place were we can
simu ltaneously be more visible
and away from the glare of
unfriendly eyes - is crucial to
guarantee services to the gay
and lesbian community and
continue to grow for those who
need them most. And though it
may seem like a small matter,
having a home can create a
sense of increased relevance
and pride that can do wonders
for any commu nity.

Why are you involved in
TOHR's capital campaign,
the Pyramid Project:
Change and acceptance for
"minorities" has never come
about through silence and
hiding in the shadows. Through-
out history, brave women and
men have stood tall in the face
of prejudice while struggling for
equality. I believe that a
permanent, visible presence in
the Tulsa Community is not only
important for supporting our
GLBT community and allies, it
will also act as a symbol that we
do exist. Yes , right here in the
middle of the Bible belt. My
hope is that this POSITIVE,
PRIDEFULL symbol will aid in
unifying our community and
provide a place for all who seek
help and acceptance. Finally,
our GLBT friends and families
deserve the best facility we can
possibly provide. I want to be a
part of making GLBT history in
Oklahoma . I have no doubt this
dream will soon become a
reality!
