HAPPY 1 YEARANNIVERSARY!
It's been a whole year that we have

"When the day of Pentecost came they
were all together in one place.
Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a
violent wind came from heaven and
filled the whole house where they were
silting. They saw what seemed to be
tongues offire that separated and came
to rest on each of them. All of them
were filled with the Holy Spirit and
began to speak in other tongues as the
Spirit enabled them." Acts 2:1-4
I thank you for the celebration on
May 5th. The gift of the micr~lite fishing gear touches my heart-so do your

personal gifts from so many of you,
including the choir's gift of "On Eagles
Wings". Thank You all so much!
I am reminded that the shepherd
guides, protects and finds food for the
sheep. But at night when the shepherd
lays down to rest, the sheep surround
the shepherd and keep him/her warm
from the cold night air. I have felt you
surround me as your shepherd and am
blessed with your warmth.
On May 26th we leave the season of
Eastertide and move into the Pentecost
season. The Pentecost season goes
from May 26th until the first Sunday of
Advent, December 1st (in 1996). It is
sometimes referred to as Trinity
Season, and in some denominations it
is referred to as Ordinary Time.
Whatever we call the season, it is the
longest one in the church calendar!
Second in importance to the Easter
Season was the Day of Pentecost. Like
the Pascha, it was also a Jewish feast
(see Leviticus 23:16). Sometimeduring

DINNER
1ST SUNDAY EACH MONTH
(Pentecost continued)
Pentecost came to reflect for the
Jews the giving of the law at Mr.
Sinai. for Christians, the Day of
Pentecost commemorated the birthday of the church when, with a noise
of a wind, tongues of flames rested
on the disciples and they began to
talk in other tongues. The books of
Acts is the chronicle of the work of
the Spirit filled church in its early
years.
Pentecost began as a unitive feast,
too. Tertullian suggests that Christ
ascended into Heaven at Pentecost.
For almost four centuries the Day of
Pentecost commemorated both the
ascension of Jesus and the descent
of the Holy Spirit. By the end of the
fourth century where there was one
feast, now there were two:
Ascension and Pentecost. Christ
was in Heaven, and the Holy Spirit
dwelt in the Holy Church on earth. It
was a daily reality the church could
experience, not an abstraction.
The color of Pentecost is typically
red, of the finest texture and the
brightest colors. During the long
season Red, green, rainbow or a
combination of colors may be used.
Variety in colors is encouraged
because otherwise the red becomes
tedious and meaningless. The primary symbols of Pentecost include
the descending dove, tongues of
flames, symbols of the church, or
abstractly, a downward-cast arrow.

What Do Those
SymbolsIVlean?
In honor of Pride Month '96, watch
here for the next few months to discover what these commonly used
symbols of pride mean to the gay &
lesbian community.
The first pride symbol we'll discuss is
the Pink Triangle. The following column was found on the internet.
(Continued on page 4)
I've heard it said that life is a game and
money is how we keep score. Are you
winning? To me, winning is having
enough money to live in a comfortable
home, eat well, and maybe drive a car
that runs when it's supposed to; but
most of all to be able to return to God a
portion of what is provided to me by
way of my tithes and gifts. I wonder
about those who don't feel they're winning ...could it be something as simple as
not knowing all the rules of the game?
Imagine trying to win at basketball if
the only rules of the game you know are
for football. Your chances would be
severely limited, wouldn't they?
Do you know the rules of the game? I
will present a workshop to teach basic
principles of how money works. The
workshop is scheduled for Sunday, June
2Srd at the church following the service.
Be sure to watch for further developments as the date may change depending on the date of the Pride activities.
There are some basic rules about money
that everyone needs to know, but we've
been taught over the years that the subject is way over our heads. That is
another lie. Anyone is able to take more
control over the money situation if they
are shown the rules. For example, consider the following statement:
Make the minimum payments on a credit
card balance of $3,000.00 at 19.8% interes~ and make no new purchases, and it will
take 39 years to pay eff! And cost you
$10,000.00 in interest alone.
Is this a true statement? Find out for
yourself at the workshop. You will also
learn why it is important for you to fight
for every percentage point in interest
paid or earned. I believe God wants us
to prosper and has given me the gift of
understanding and teaching these principles to all my family on this earth. I
hope to see you at the workshop. And
by the way, about the credit card question? It is a true statement. Protect
yourself and your future: learn the
rules of how to make money work for
you.

Why the Pink Triangle?
The wearing of the Pink Triangle stems from the Holocaust You may remember that
the Jews were forced to wear yellow stars of David on their sleevesto alert everyone to
their Status as Jews. You may not be aware that the Stars of David were not the only
symbol that people were forced to wear. Gay men were forced to wear the Pink triangle, and Lesbians, prositutes, and other "socially undesirable" women were forced to
wear a black triangle. By marking their victims in thismanner, the Nazis made it easy
to find their targets in the crowd.
While allJews had to wear a the YellowStar always (often with a capital J distorted
to remind one of Hebrew writing in the center), the triangles were used only in the
concentration camps. They established sort of a hierachy within the prisoners as well
with the green ones (regular criminals)
at the top and the pink ones at the bottom.
Jews accused of some other "crime" carried there two triangles, the one indicating
their crime, point down, an atop of it a yellow one, point up.--All these signs had to
be worn at the top left of the chest and, in the CCs, on the outside of the left trouser
leg.
A good account of gays in the CCs is given in Robert Plant's book ''Pink Triangle:
The Nazi War Against Homosexuals" (H Holt & Co.). The author, a gay leftist Jew,
escaped from Germany in the early thirties, fust to Switzerland, then to the USA
