iris "unplugged" for the first time at the
herland spring retreat
The popular OKC band, IRIS, will
perform their first acoustic concert
ever at Herland 's Spring Retreat.
Many of you know IRIS as a
rockin ', hoppin', high-energy band.
They promise to still play lots of
crowd-pleasing favorites-just at a
few decibels lower than we
normally hear them!
Get away for a great spring
weekend and enjoy peace, quiet,
and nature at Roman Nose State
Park, near Watonga. The retreat
will be Friday through Sunday,
May 18-20th. We'll be at the
Group Camp where A-frame cabins
can accommodate up to a dozen
women each. (You can also tent
camp or bring an RV if you prefer.)
Bring a bedroll and toiletries. Dogs
are welcome as long as they can
agreeably stay on a leash all
weekend and not come in the dining
hall.
We provide most meals -Friday
evening pot-o-soup, Saturday and
Sunday breakfast. For lunch on
Saturday there is usually leftover
soup. Saturday evening is the
grand potluck dinner where you
bring your favorite dish to wow
your friends. Herland has lots of
drinks and snacks available all
weekend for a small donation or you
can bring your own.
During the day, we'll be relaxing,
playing games, hiking, fishing, and
holding workshops. Friday and
Saturday night we sit around the
campfire, singing songs,
and telling tales. The
IRIS concert will be
Saturday evening about 8
pm. You can drive up for
the concert only (for only
$10) if time is limited.
Don't wait till the last
minute- send in your
registration form today
and get ready for some
fun! (See page 3.)

herland hike
Our urban hike continues. In April,
we toured Bricktown; this month
we will see the Stockyards and the
River Trail. Meet at the Trolley
Stop in front of Bass Pro at 9:40
am. (Parking is available in the
free lot south of Bass Pro and next
to the Land Rush Statues.) The Orange Line trolley will leave at
10:04 am from in front of Bass Pro.
Cost is one dollar.
At 10:20 am we arrive at Stockyards City (Agnew and SW 12th).
We will spend a few minutes exploring Stockyards storefronts , and
then we have a four-mile walk
along the Oklahoma River Trail to
the Chesapeake Boat House at Regatta Park. Then it is less than a
half-mile back to Bass Pro, the
Land Rush Statues, and our parked
vehicles. We will finish around
12 :30 on the edge of Bricktown.
Anyone who wants to stay and hang
out or eat in Bricktown can do so.
For those who want to share in the
experience but not walk four miles,
you are invited to meet the group at
10:20 am at Stockyards City
(Agnew and SW 12 1h) walking as
long as you are comfortable, and
turning back when you choose .
This is a pleasant area including
some wetlands. For more info, call

angie johnson, faa globe, receives
national award
Congratulations to Angie Johnson of Oklahoma City who was selected
to receive the FAA Administrator's National Award for Excellence in
Equal Employment Opportunity for her
work in FAA GLOBE (Gay, Lesbian, Or
Bisexual Employees). She will receive
the award in Washington, DC, from
Marion Blakey the Administrator of the
FAA.
Herland got to know Angie and the OKC
GLOBE group when they collected
donations and asked Herland to help them
locate a local and needy elderly lesbian to
present with a very nice gift card for the
holidays.
Angie is also being awarded the Oklahoma Federal Executive Board
Federal Employee Award for Outstanding Diversity Contribution. She
will be given this award on May 7 at a banquet at the Clarion Meridian.
This award recognizes demonstrated exemplary accomplishments in
providing equal employment opportunities for non-supervisory employees
(Employees, Teams, Groups or Associations of Employees). Some
examples are efforts to eradicate discrimination, harassment, and other
barriers to fair and equitable treatment in the workplace.
Congratulations, Angie! Job well done.
