OPRAH BLOWS IT
Dear Roxanne:
Geez! Did you see the Oprah Winfrey
show on Lesbianism which aired on
February 9, 1988? Please, let us speak out
about our reaction to this show. I have
already composed a letter and am en
couraging everyone to write. I taped the
show, so my friends who missed it will
soon be seeing it,
I had hoped that the representatives chosen
for this show would be good rep
resentatives of the Lesbian Community.
This is my community being put in the
limelight I watched the show hoping to
find satisfaction in the message which was
being portrayed to a National pre
dominantly non-understanding audience. I
had faith that Optrah would handle the topic
tastefully and in a positive manner.
I expected entirely too much. She took
two extremes and tried to cram them into
an hotir show. The pwlitical issue focused
on was "Hatred of Men." No impwrtant
that letters will pxiur in. It's time we took
a stand and let the world know that we are
tired of having to misrepresent ourselves
to families and co-workers on a daily
basis. We need legal rights and protection.
Unless we make society as a whole aware
of our needs, we won't have our needs
fulfilled. Spjeak our and let your voice be
heard.

the
one
to read. It's got adventure, mystery,
and a good dose of sensuality.
The main characters, Chris and Merry
start off on a weekend camping trip as
and intelligently written book. I read
it in a single setting and passed it
onto my roommate who did the same.
I felt tense the entire time I was
reading it wondering what would
happen next Ms. Ennis does,
however, manage to relieve the
friends. A ferocious thunderstorm
tension from time to time with her
catches them off guard and when
Chris wakes up, she finds that they
are in an unfamiliar valley with no
sign of civilization to be found. This
sarcastic wit
is where the adventure, and the love
story, begin.
Where are they? How did they get
there? How are they going to survive?
Will they be rescued? I can't tell you
any of that, but I can say that the
answers are much more intriguing
than the questions.
To The Lightning is an exciting
To The Lightning is going on my
"A" List... now all I'm waiting for is
a sequel! This is Ms. Ennis' first
novel and we should be seeing more
of her in the future (and that suits me
fine)!
